At Starboard South Africa we are taking to the water this December and we want to invite you! This is your year to find your favourite water sport. We have a range of gear that caters to Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP), Foil Surfing, Wingfoiling and Windsurfing. We will go over each water sport we supply and why you should try it. Every December, South Africans gather along the coast to enjoy the traditional beach holiday we all know and love. Now is the time to make it memorable and learn to tame those waves.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

The ideal first board is the Stand Up Paddle Board, it is a popular favourite for any body of water. It is the go-to for any beginner who wants full control over their board and their pace on the board. It is ideal for steady and slow water and the perfect water sport for the whole family to enjoy. We have a blog post dedicated to learning how to use a Stand-Up Paddle Board. If that is still not convincing enough we have an inflatable option for the board so you can easily travel with it from beach to beach or river.

Foil Surfing

The popularity of foil surfing is growing. And you don’t even need waves! Using the motion of your own body you can control the movement, direction and speed of the board. Consistent motion keeps the board going. It encourages you to exercise your whole body as you balance and use your own motion to stay in motion on the water. It is the perfect board if the natural waves of the ocean make you uncomfortable. Still need more, check out a trusted review on YouTube.

Wingfoiling

A more exciting board on this list. If you are looking for speed and flight but not quite feeling ready for windsurfing. Wingfoiling is the sport where you have a Foil board and an accompanying hand-held wing, catch that air and ride it. You control the board with the motion of your body and can control just how much wind you want to catch. You can find a basic rundown on how to Wingfoil in another one of our blog posts. If you want to give Wingfoiling a go we have a blog post with some safety tips so you can feel comfortable and safe when taking your new ‘sails’ for a spin on the water.

Windsurfing

Windsurfing is the most common water sport in our range. With the recognizable sail attached to a board, you let the wind carry you as you slice your way through waves or ramp them into the air. This sport is the embodiment of speed and flight on the water. If you handle that and the thought of it excites you then this could potentially be your next favourite water sport this December.
